Charlene Cowling is a Canadian-born Photojournalist and humanist based in central Ontario. Charlene combined her 10-year history in mental health, education and child protection fields and her Masters degree in Clinical Social Work, Honours degrees in Psychology and Clinical Social Work with her passion for photographic documentation in order to highlight under-represented social issues on a national and international basis. Charlene is a recipient of the Peter Bryski Award for dedication to Photojournalism. She publishes regularly in newspapers and magazines across Canada and the U.S.,has been published in "The Life of Water" book and has had numerous exhibitions.

Her international work includes an inside look at the Women in Afghanistan, The Children’s Cancer Ward in Managua, Nicaragua, Dumpsite Dwellers in Managua, Nicaragua, The Maya of Guatemala, The Canadian Army in Bosnia, and Islamic Extremism in Bosnia. Her current local work includes a long-term project on HIV/ AIDS, a long-term project on Death & Dying,, and Native issues across Canada.
